Kristian Jeff Cortez Agustin has been based in Manchester, UK while conducting his research studies on photographing Southeast Asia for his doctoral scholarship at Manchester School of Art. He is originally from Manila, Philippines, but has lived in Singapore (for a professional stint at the Asia-Europe Foundation), Hong Kong (for his research work at Hong Kong Baptist University School of Communication / Academy of Film), and London (for his Master’s degree in Visual Culture University of Westminster).
His artistic practice includes visual art (calligraphy, ink, oil, watercolour), various digital media (graphic design, photography, video), performance art (movement, music, theatre), and literature (poetry, songwriting). He often brings together these various specialisms into his curatorial practice and directorial experience — working in Hong Kong, London, and Manila.
His current and previous academic and professional affiliations include the following international organisations:
The International Communication Association (ICA), the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), the Association for Cultural Studies (ACS), the Association of Southeast Asian Studies in the United Kingdom (ASEASUK), Nordic Summer University (NSU), Japan Association for Cultural Economics (JACE), and the Asia-Europe Foundation University Alumni Association (ASEFUAN). He is also a member of PhotoVoice UK and The Poetry Society in London.
